Ever wondered how to get your song on the same volume as a song that’s on the radio?
Have you ever listened to a mixtape, and notice that not all of the tracks are on the same volume (track 2 is softer then tracks 1 and 3)?
Then you need MASTERING: The final process in which your song or album gets processed. Simply put, mastering is the process of making your song sound “industry-standard” by adjusting the overall volume, EQ and Multi-Compression and Limiting. This process can be either for a song, or an entire album. If mastering is applied to an entire album, then ALL tracks will have the same EQ, multi-compression, and overall volume…therefore eliminating the “not-all-tracks-sound-the-same” issue.
If you only want to adjust the overall volume and levels on an entire album (without the needed EQ & Compression), then you need an Album Tune-Up.
Also remember that a song cannot be mastered without it being mixed.
